gadget reviews : Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Browser & Movie Studio

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Browser & Movie Studio
One very nice new feature in Ice Cream Sandwich is the Movie Studio video editor. It's similar to other mobile device video editors like the one that comes with the Nokia N8 and Apple's iMovie which you can buy for the iPhone on the App Store. You've got all the basic functions like combining different video clips, adding titles, transitions, and a few simple effects. Android's Movie Studio works quite well, but often times you'll have to wait for a command to be applied and the progress bar is very small and difficult to even notice. The browser has nicely been redesigned to offer thumbnail images of each open "tab" containing a different web page. You can now see more than one thumbnail at a time and easily switch between them. Navigating a web page and zoom/panning through out it is plenty fast, though you'll often see a bit of faded re-rendering. When it comes to HTML 5 speed tests however, the ice cream sandwich browser does not impress with its slow frame rates.

gadget reviews : First Look at CyanogenMod 9 on the Galaxy Nexus

First Look at CyanogenMod 9 on the Galaxy Nexus
It's been about a month and a half since Cyanogen himself said work had begun on CM9 and to "check back in 2 months". Since that date is quickly approaching, how close are we to having a functional CyanogenMod 9? Based on what I saw, we're very close! First off, the Galaxy Nexus (in either variety) isn't an officially supported CM device -- yet. I suspect it will be the launch device for CM9 when it's finally released. Next, there are no official builds of CM9 for the Galaxy Nexus -- or any device for that matter. I was, however, able to get my hands on a custom compiled version of CM9 and load it up on my GSM Galaxy Nexus for you to see! Head over to the article on pocketnow.com for all the details and links to the files you'll need: pocketnow.com

Amazon Kindle Fire vs iPad 2 (and other tablets)
The last in our video review series on the Amazon Kindle Fire is a comparison with other tablet hardware. We have a HTC Flyer, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and an iPad 2 on hand for the analysis. Overall, the Amazon Kindle Fire is a fantastic device for the price and hopefully will lead to reducing the gap between Android and iOS tablets. Our final score for this Amazon Kindle Fire? A 3.5 out of 5. Pros: - Bright screen - Strong ecosystem for content - Solid build - Great battery life - Price Cons - Only 8GB of storage (with no expansion options) - Still not any comparison to the iPad 2 (but why would you) - Stereo speakers located on the same side You can purchase the Amazon Kindle Fire for $199 from Amazon.com Website: pocketnow.com Twitter twitter.com Facebook: www.facebook.com

gadget reviews : Galaxy Note Unboxing & 1st Look

Galaxy Note Unboxing & 1st Look
Unboxing the White Samsung Galaxy Note. Thanks to Negri Electronics: www.negrielectronics.com When the Samsung Galaxy Note was announced a few months back, many wondered whether it was a phone, tablet or something we'd haven't even heard of. At 5.3-inches of screen, the device absolutely towers over smartphones currently on the market. We got a brief hands-on in September and came away impressed despite its massive size. It's a phone, just to clear the air. And it's huge. In a world where devices are only getting bigger, the Galaxy Note jumps past the 4-inch range altogether and lands at a massive 5.3-inches. Why move up in increments when you can up the ante in one swing? What we previously considered big -- Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound, Droid Razr -- is now slight and tiny. What we want to know will the size hinder or improve the experience? And is the Galaxy Note daily driver material? Droid Xyboard 8.2 Unboxing & Hands On
Droid Xyboard 8.2 Unboxing & Hands On There's been no shortage of tablet devices this year, and Verizon is seeing fit to say goodbye to 2011 by introducing an oddly named Honeycomb line: Xyboard. How the honchos at Big Red ever thought the name would catch on, we'll never know. In a market dominated by the iPad and Kindle Fire, out comes not one, but two Xyboard variations slated to succeed this year's Xoom. The design is interesting, and it comes equipped with LTE, but are those features enough for consumers to take notice over something like the Transformer Prime? Priced at $430 for the 16GB model and $530 for the 32GB (with two-year contract) the Xyboard 8.2 sure isn't cheap, especially when you factor in the cost of a data plan. gadget reviews : Galaxy Nexus Review - Say Hello to Android's Future

Galaxy Nexus Review - Say Hello to Android's Future
Galaxy Nexus Review Reviewing one of 2011′s most anticipated phones is no easy task. We've had our hands on the GSM flavor for over a month now (the Verizon version for about a week), and even that amount of time has left us feeling conflicted. Mostly the Galaxy Nexus impressed as being the best smartphone on the market. Other times, not so much. Having reviewed countless phones over the past twelve months, the Galaxy Nexus is definitely a welcome change of pace over the droves of devices that came out in 2011, thanks in large part to Ice Cream Sandwich. To break it down, we're making it crystal clear about what we loved, and what we hated, starting first with the positives. On the hardware front, the Galaxy Nexus' screen is stunning, plain and simple. With a 720p Super-AMOLED (1280×720) display, the text, images and video all look crisp, clear and incredibly vibrant. Of course, a nice display would be meaningless without a good OS, and Ice Cream Sandwich certainly doesn't disappoint. Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Hardware Tour
Here's a look at the hardware on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus ice cream sandwich phone. The Galaxy Nexus ships with Android 4.0.1 has a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 CPU with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage (with no microSD slot). The front camera can take photos at 1.3MP and video at 720p, while the rear camera is a 5MP shooter with a flash, and can record full 1080p video. The display is 4.65" at 1280x720 resolution (making for a DPI of 315), and is of the Super AMOLED HD variety. The phone also supports Verizon's 4G LTE network for extremely fast download speeds. You also get WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS, digital compass, a barometer (to assist with GPS accuracy), and NFC. The phone is 135grams, and just 8.84mm in depth. Powering everything is a 1850mAh battery. Unlike some other recent Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy Nexus has a bit of heft to it. That's not a bad thing either. It feels very solid in the hand. It's not too heavy and not too light.

How Cars are Made...An Inside Look (Ford Focus Electric)
Inside the Ford Focus Electric assembly line. Recently I hit the floor of the Ford Focus assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford held a press event on Wednesday, December 15th for the Focus Electric, C-Max Energi and C-Max Hybrid four-door machines. As luck would have it, members of the press were invited to experience a behind the scenes taste of the new Focus Electric being tossed together. We hit various stops on our way through the plant, honing in on the technology of the Focus Electric's 23kWh dual lithium-ion batteries. However, got a chance to experience a conveyor belt-propelled drivetrain buffet, accordion wheel car and giant spiraling tire slide. One of my favorite parts of the tour was the dashing ensemble that I was required to wear, complete with safety glasses and a neon yellow safety vest. gadget reviews : MiniSquadron Xbox LIVE Game for Windows Phone

MiniSquadron Xbox LIVE Game for Windows Phone
This week's new Xbox LIVE game for Windows Phone is "MiniSquadron". It's a 2D flying game where you use a directional joystick on the lower left to fly your plan through different areas while shooting down enemy planes. There are 9 different area levels and about 60 planes that you can unlock to use in the dog fights. Cool power-ups will occasionally fall from the sky and if you catch them you'll either get better weapons, an extra life, invisibility, extra speed, etc. Playing the game is a lot of fun and reminds me a bit of Rocket Riot, except it's a bit slower in terms of the action. Be sure to try the game with the sound on... there's some great classical background music!

gadget reviews : HTC Vivid from ATT Unboxing

HTC Vivid from ATT Unboxing
In this video, we are unboxing the one of the newest 4G LTE devices from ATT: the HTC Vivid. There are quite a few 4G devices available on the market today. But with a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor (using the Scorpion CPU and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset), 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, and a 4.5" qHD display, the HTC Vivid certainly looks, at first glance, to be able hold its own. Running Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) and HTC Sense 3.0, this device is snappy out of the box. The 4G LTE service from ATT is far from widespread, however, and may cause the battery life (1620mAh) to suffer as it hunts for signal. The Vivid is noticeably heavier than the Galaxy S II, and has lots of beveled edges which may keep the device from being the most comfortable to use in the long run. Stay tuned for our upcoming hardware and software tours of the HTC Vivid, where we will dig into the phone in more detail. The HTC Vivid is available for $199 on a 2-year contract from ATT. First impressions: - Feels slightly awkward in-hand - Noticeably heavier than the Galaxy S II - Out of the box, the device seems very snappy Twitter: twitter.com Facebook: www.facebook.com

Some of you wondered if "older" launchers like Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher will work on Ice Cream Sandwich, and the Galaxy Nexus. Why the two questions? The first has to do with the operating system and its ability to physically run the apps, the second question centers around the 720p HD resolution of the phone's screen and whether or not the launchers would look look and function correctly. pocketnow.com

2013 Ford C-Max Energi First Look
2013 Ford C-Max Energi First Look Adding more fuel to the MPGe Wars, Ford announced the 2013 C-Max Energi and 2013 C-Max in Dearborn this week. He also said that the non-plugin C-Max Hybrid will be offered at the most affordable price the company has ever slapped on one of their hybrid models.
