Weekly Tech Recap with SoldierKnowsBest
For all the details mentioned in the video: bit.ly We're excited to have Mark Watson, aka SoldierKnowsBest on YouTube, join our TechnoBuffalo team. Each Friday he will be bringing you a recap of all the hottest news in the tech world, and his first video for us is jam packed with all of the details you crave. First up, how could you do any recap of this week without talking about the Verizon iPhone deal? We've been waiting for this announcement since 2007, and to see it finally come down felt more like a relief than anything else. At long last we can stop all of the speculation and just get down to business. Existing Verizon customers can begin pre-ordering the phone on Feb. 3rd and new customers can get in on the excitement on Feb. 10th. Apple also released iOS 4.3 to developers this week, and while there was a lot of talk about how the new version will bring Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities to all iPhones, there was also some new multi-touch gestures that has led some to believe that the home button will be removed from all iOS devices. We have to agree with Mark, this is not an idea that is going to thrill many people. There are also some hints of a new "Find My Friends" feature and new features for AirPlay. Google wants to translate all of your conversations for you so you can more easily talk with people who speak another language. This is a definite step towards the universal translator of Star Trek lore. Are you a dedicated gamer? Would you ever take two years to make a

gadget reviews : Nintendo 3DS: 1st Impressions

Nintendo 3DS: 1st Impressions
For a full 3DS Recap: At long last Nintendo is cutting loose with some details on the Nintendo 3DS such as a launch date, price and what games to expect. While the focus about the next iteration of the DS line has all been about the fact it will have a 3D display, it seems Nintendo is doing all sorts of things to the handheld device to make it more than just "a game". The inclusion of a Web browser, social applications, multiple cameras, video viewing, music playing and a pedometer (yes, this thing will measure how far you work) seem to be turning this into an all-in-one device. Convergence has been the name of the game for a while in electronics as people don't want to carry multiple devices any more, but it does seem they may have gone a tad overboard this time around. And the price for the 3DS reflects this. When it launches on march 27th you can expect to be putting down $249.99 to take one home with you. That seems a bit high to me, but the last handheld system I bought was a GameBoy Advance for $99, so what would I know? Nintendo is launching this 3D gaming mobile console on March 27th, and during that time you can expect to see over 30 game titles launch for the system.

gadget reviews : Mac Vs. PC: Round 3 (Apps)

Mac Vs. PC: Round 3 (Apps)
For more, including previous rounds: bit.ly In the last installment of the OS Wars, we put Windows and Mac OS X head to head in customization. Windows walked away with an easy victory, with much easier ways to customize software and hardware. In this round, we are going to take a look at the bundled apps that come with the Operating Systems. Since the infancy of both operating systems, simple applications have been bundled like a Calculator and a text manipulator. With the age of computing shifting towards media-centric tasks, these bundled applications have become more robust and useful. With this being said, this is mostly a comparison of iLife and Windows Live Essentials. Even though Essentials is not pre-installed on Windows, its easily download for free through Windows Update. Photo Management iPhoto may seem like an obvious favorite here, but in reality Windows Photo Gallery is very functional and does the same tasks that iPhoto does. These include Face Recognition, Geo Tagging, Social Media integration, and basic photo editing. However, where iPhoto really excels is not in the raw features, but how they are implemented. Apple does a great job of making things easy to do, while still allowing powerful options. For that reason alone, iPhoto wins this one. Movie Editing This again is a spot where Apple would seem like an obvious winner. However, Movie Maker is a robust and easy to use program with a lot of features. It is a great program to have installed, and works

gadget reviews : 16Gb Dell Venue Pro's Freezing Defect

16Gb Dell Venue Pro's Freezing Defect
Back in December, the Dell Venue Pro's started shipping. We reviewed the 8Gb version and it seemed like the best Windows Phone 7 on the market. Unfortunately if you ordered a 16Gb version, the story might be awfully different. I got my first 16Gb Dell Venue Pro on December 23rd, 2010 and I soon noticed that it would freeze up or go to a totally black screen (except for the clock) while downloading and installing large apps over WiFi. There is a (en.community.dell.com long thread in the Dell support forums about this issue. Those of us experiencing the problem had to call Dell to schedule an exchange. If you called one of the normal Dell support numbers, you will get passed on from representative to representative, each one not knowing really where to forward your call. Once you figure out the phone number for Dell Mobility, which is 1-800-308-3355, you'll actually get service quite quickly. My replacement Dell Venue Pro was supposed to arrive December 30th, but it never did and the order status never changed. I assumed they needed time to fix the problem. Then a new Dell Venue Pro arrived on my doorstep on January 18th! Unfortunately, the new 16Gb Dell Venue Pro had the same problem.

Nokia N8 Unboxing
The Nokia N8 has been around for a while, but we heard it was pretty good, so we thought we should check it out. The N8 comes in a fairly large square blue box. There are reflective foil highlight outlines of the device embossed on the box cover and inner layer. Opening the flip-top box reveals the gorgeous Nokia N8 smartphone, and beneath a plastic molded holder are a bunch of extras. You've got an AC Charger, nice headphones with hardware control buttons and microphone, MicroUSB cable, MicroUSB to female USB adapter, and MiniHDMI to full HDMI adapter. That last one is really nice to include since most other phones with HDMI out require you to buy a separate adapter.

Nokia N8 Hardware Tour
The Nokia N8 hardware design is really spectacular. It just looks fantastic coming out of the box. It's got an aluminum metal body with a 3.5" capacitive glass OLED screen, 0.3Mp front facing camera, MicroSD memory expansion slot, and 16Gb internal storage. In terms of processor speed, it's nothing terribly impressive at 680Mhz with 256Mb of RAM, however the 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash really is something to marvel at. You've also got an HDMI port on the phone, and even an FM Transmitter for playing audio on an FM radio in the car.

Motorola Droid Pro vs. Samsung Fascinate Dogfight Part 1 by Aaron It's a dogfight review smackdown! Aaron pits two awesome Android devices against each other - the Motorola Droid Pro and the Samsung Fascinate. Both are available on Verizon, but they appeal to two different demographics. The Droid Pro offers a 1 GHz TI OMAP processor, 3.1-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, physical QWERTY keyboard, and Android 2.2. The Samsung Fascinate, on the other hand, offers a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, and a 5-megapixel camera, but is saddled with Android 2.1. At the end of the day, both have good and bad qualities, and it was a tough call to decide between the two (as it always is). That said, only one can win. Who will it be? Special thanks to our friends at HP Canada for hooking us up with the review unit (eh?)! It's not available in the US just yet (unless you want to pay $449 for an unlocked one), but word on the street is that it's coming to Verizon soon. gadget reviews : HTC Thunderbolt Hands On

HTC Thunderbolt Hands On
Earlier we were poking fun at HTC's marketing message for the 4G-capable Thunderbolt because we felt that given the specs of the device, it's not our idea of our dream phone, or the "one after that." Nevertheless, the Thunderbolt is a solid device that isn't unlike the Desire HD or especially the EVO 4G. The device feels fast (despite having a single core processor, unlike the dualies coming from Motorola and LG), has great built quality, and has a stunning 4.3" LCD display. On the Thunderbolt you're getting the latest and greatest version of HTC Sense, complete with cloud integration to HTCSense.com, plus many other goodies. Believe us when we tell you that it's like a Desire HD or EVO 4G, but with Verizon 4G LTE. And that's not a bad thing.
