gadget reviews : T-Mobile Nokia Astound Hands-On

T-Mobile Nokia Astound Hands-On
In this video we take a hands-on look at the upcoming Nokia Astound on T-Mobile. After we stumbled across an in-construction display for the Nokia Astound at CTIA yesterday, the phone has been formally announced and now we've had the chance to get a little hands-on time with the Symbian^3 smartphone. The menu action on the Astound (née C7) is definitely spry, with quick transitions between phone screens. The same can't be said, however, for the phone's browser, which stumbled a bit keeping up with touchscreen input. On the plus side, the phone and its browser do support multi-touch controls for pinch-to-zoom; you'll just want to keep your patience. For a higher-end phone, we might take issue with the performance, but the Astound is admittedly being presented as an entry-level smartphone, with the low price, compact size, and stylish lines that make it exemplary of the type. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to look at the image quality of the Astound's eight-megapixel camera, but did get the opportunity to browse through some of the pre-installed apps, including Fruit Ninja and Slacker radio. Of course, you'll be able to flesh those out with some of your own choosing from the Ovi Store. The Astound lands on T-Mobile on April 6 for about $80.
