gadget reviews : Windows Phone Mango beta 1 vs beta 2

Windows Phone Mango beta 1 vs beta 2
A second beta build of Windows Phone Mango was released to developers yesterday even though the final version has gone gold two days ago. This second beta is close enough to final for developers to start finalizing their new applications, but we're also interesting in what kind of consumer features may have changed since the previous beta from June. First off, the big ones are working Twitter and LinkedIn integration in the people hub. Well, mostly working. You can post status updates or tweets to both along with Facebook and Windows Live at the same time. You can reply to tweets as mentions and you'll get notified of tweets that mention you through the "Me" live tile. You'll also see full Twitter timeline updates in the People Hub's "What's New" feed which can be filtered of course. Unfortunately all of your Twitter and LinkedIn contacts do not currently load into the full contacts listing. There are options to filter your contacts based on those networks, but none of them load. This also poses a problem with groups since you cannot link your contacts to their Twitter or LinkedIn accounts manually. That means your Group or single contact "What's New" feeds will not show twitter updates at this time. Hopefully that is something that can be fixed on the Windows Live server back-end since it seems like it should be possible. You'll also see a few small icon design changes, some subtle animation changes, and over all it feels a bit faster. Website: pocketnow.com Twitter

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide vs. Samsung DROID Charge Dogfight Part 2
T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide vs. Samsung DROID Charge Dogfight Part 2 by Aaron Aaron pits the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide against the Samsung DROID Charge. The myTouch 4G Slide offers a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with a 3.7-inch Super LCD, 8-megapixel shooter that's supposedly "the most advanced camera on a smartphone," front-facing camera, and Android 2.3 with HTC Sense 3.0. The Charge is powered by a single-core 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and offers a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel camera, front-facing camera, and Android 2.2 with TouchWiz 3.0. T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide vs. Samsung DROID Charge Dogfight Part 1 by Aaron There are quite a few 4G smartphones out there, and given the carrier rhetoric that usually surrounds the new technology, it can be challenging to decide which one to go with. The myTouch 4G Slide offers a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 3.7-inch Super LCD, 8-megapixel camera that's supposedly "the most advanced camera on a smartphone," front-facing shooter, and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with HTC's Sense 3.0 user interface. Just strictly comparing the specs of both, it looks like the claim should be true, but everyone knows real-world tests are where it matters the most. Having an 11-inch version of both the 2010 and 2011 versions on hand, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do a comparison test and see if the claims were true or not. For this test I ran both through the same four tests: Boot time App opening speed Video importing speed Video exporting speed As I said in my unboxing video, working with video is where it was going to matter the most to me, so now it's time to see if I made a wise investment. Verizon Motorola Droid 3 Hardware Tour
Even with a dual-core processor (allowing for even power-hungry applications to run more efficiently), dual-band and bright 4-inch qHD display, the Droid 3 has a very acceptable battery life (especially compared to 4G devices). While a little heavier than most keyboard phones, it is the slimmest we've seen thus far. Certainly a welcome upgrade in the Droid line. It isn't without problems, however. Even though it is easily viewable in bright sunlight, the PenTile display colors are washed out, and there is noticeable pixelation, especially with text and scrolling. Noticeably absent from the phone is the gyroscope. The Motorola Droid 3 is available from Verizon for $199 with a two year contract. The Triumph is a high-end device with a 4.1-inch display, a 1 GHz processor, and a 5MP camera that is capable of capturing 720p HD video. The Triumph is easily the best smartphone that Virgin Mobile has had and is a strong step for the carrier to deliver better phones, thus encouraging the exodus from contract carriers to prepaid carriers. Is this phone to get if you're looking to make the switch to a prepaid carrier? Or if you've been with Virgin Mobile for a while, is this the phone you've been waiting for? We'll start to find that out in this unboxing and further in the review, coming to PhoneDog. Facebook: www.facebook.com Twitter: www.twitter.com Win Free Phones: instantwin.phonedog.com
