gadget reviews : Continuum Hardware Overview

Continuum Hardware Overview
Samsung seems to have hit a home run with their Galaxy S line of devices. Each of the major US carriers has received their own version of a Galaxy S phone. Verizon Wireless and Samsung each wanted to take things a step further by creating another Galaxy S device, but with a unique design. Enter the Samsung Continuum, a phone that possesses a main 3.4" sAMOLED touchscreen, but also a secondary 1.8" touchscreen ticker to display notification, weather, RSS feeds, etc. The brain of the operation is a 1GHz Hummingbird processor meshed with 336MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. The Hummingbird processor certainly doesn't disappoint, but the lower (and odd) amount of RAM may hold the Continuum back. Time and use will be the greatest test. Pair these specs with a 1500mAh battery that Samsung estimates to provide seven hours of talk time and it sounds like we have a solid contender on our hands.

gadget reviews : Droid Pro Video Recording Test

Droid Pro Video Recording Test
Motorola details the Droid Pro as being able to record 720p video at 30 frames per second. In the below video we put this claim to the test. As you'll see, the camera seems to perform fairly well in changing light conditions, as well as tracking fast moving objects such as dogs.

Android Quick Tip Extend your Battery Life by Changing your Wi-Fi Sleep Policy
Generally speaking, you don't need to leave your Wi-Fi turned on when your screen is turned off, and Android has a settings area where you can set your Wi-Fi sleep time accordingly. It's buried pretty deep in the settings, so some people may not even know it exists. To make sure your Wi-Fi radio is set how you want it (to maximize battery life, or to maximize convenience), watch the video to see what you need to do.

gadget reviews : Continuum Comparison

Continuum Comparison
In this video we compare the Samsung Continuum to the Galaxy S I9000 through a browser test, a gameplay test and comparison, as well as a YouTube load time test. The two devices share the same 1GHz Hummingbird processor. But, the Continuum clocks in slightly lower in the RAM category with 336MB of RAM, whereas the I9000 maintains a solid 512MB of RAM. Be sure to press play below to see if the RAM makes an obvious difference in our tests!

Video Calling with Qik and Fring on the T-Mobile myTouch 4G and the Sprint Epic 4G
One of the most touted "features" of the T-Mobile myTouch 4G is video calling via the built-in Qik app. Not only is it supposed to be awesome, but it's supposed to be better than Apple's FaceTime because you can make and receive calls anywhere you've got a data connection -- not just over Wi-Fi. How does it work in practice? Not that well. I took the myTouch 4G connected over T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, and the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G connected to Sprint's network, and tried to make a phone call -- or, rather, a video chat. After hours upon hours of trying to make a call, well... watch the video.
